How to use it

  1. 1Pick the closest scene: manufacturing, software delivery, or e-commerce.
  2. 2Walk the actual process and replace the generic process names with real steps and owners.
  3. 3Add cycle time (C/T), changeover time (C/O), and uptime to each process data box.
  4. 4Mark inventory and wait time between processes with the inventory triangles.
  5. 5Draw the information flow (dashed) and material flow (solid) with the connectors.
  6. 6Total the value-added time and lead time, then highlight the biggest wait as your improvement target.
