Choose Linktree when the main job is keeping a clear, frequently updated directory of your content and destinations. Consider Beacons when your bio page needs to work alongside a media kit, email campaigns and digital products. Neither choice removes the need to decide which action matters most to a visitor.
For selling, compare an eligible plan and the complete cost of the transaction. Linktree now supports digital products on eligible paid accounts, so “links versus selling” is too simplistic. Beacons offers a free starting point, but its free seller fee can matter more than its subscription price once sales become regular.
Linktree vs Beacons: the decision table
This is an official-document comparison checked October 30, 2026, with original hypothetical examples. We did not run paid campaigns, process purchases or measure conversion rates in either product. Plan details describe a published offer, not a guarantee that every account or country can use every feature.
| Your recurring job | What to evaluate first | Practical starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Share videos, articles and an existing shop | Link ordering and update effort | Compare the free bio editors |
| Respond to brand inquiries | Media kit and clear inquiry route | Investigate Beacons' combined creator workflow |
| Build a newsletter audience | Signup destination, consent and sending capacity | Check your existing email setup before moving it |
| Sell a digital download | Eligibility, platform fee, checkout and delivery | Compare the precise selling plans |
| Keep a distinct visual identity | Branding controls, domain and actual mobile layout | Inspect the required paid tier, not a homepage mockup |
A page with more tools can still be the wrong page. If visitors arrive to watch a tutorial, leading with a product catalog can distract them. If they arrive to buy the resource demonstrated in a video, burying the product below unrelated links adds unnecessary searching.
Free plans: compare the task you can finish
Linktree's paid-feature documentation distinguishes analytics history and customization across tiers. Free does not mean that no audience information exists. Be precise about whether you need recent link activity, a longer comparison window or a particular export.
Beacons' plan page combines a free bio page with a media kit and digital products. The free allowance includes 50 monthly email sends. A send is not a subscriber: if your plan is to email 200 people every week, a small sending allowance will not cover that schedule simply because you can collect addresses.
Write a short requirement before deciding a free plan is sufficient. For example: “Publish six destinations, update the first one twice a week, collect newsletter signups and review the last month's link activity.” Then identify where each step happens. A signup might feed an existing newsletter provider rather than make the bio service your email system.
A free trial is also a different offer from an ongoing free plan. Record the renewal price, billing interval and any features that disappear when the trial ends. This keeps the evaluation focused on the page you will actually maintain after the initial setup.
Beacons fees: a useful calculation, with limits
According to the Beacons transaction-fee guide, Free and Creator have a 9% seller fee, while Creator Plus and Creator Max have no Beacons seller fee. Payment processor charges remain separate. Current plan prices should come from the live pricing page because older help articles can contain earlier subscription amounts.
For a simple comparison, use Free against Creator Plus billed monthly at $30. Let G represent the monthly sales amount to which the platform percentage applies. Ignoring every other cost and assuming identical sales, the platform-cost comparison is 0.09 × G versus $30. They meet at approximately $333.33 of monthly sales.
| Hypothetical fee-bearing sales | Free: 9% platform charge | Plus: $30 monthly subscription | Difference before other costs |
|---|---|---|---|
| $100 | $9 | $30 | Free is $21 lower |
| $300 | $27 | $30 | Free is $3 lower |
| $500 | $45 | $30 | Plus is $15 lower |
| $1,000 | $90 | $30 | Plus is $60 lower |
This is arithmetic, not a forecast. It does not model refunds, tax treatment, the fee base, processor charges, annual billing, foreign exchange or changes in sales caused by a different offer. Enter the actual terms from your checkout before treating the result as a budget.
If you already pay for Creator, the comparison changes because that plan has a subscription as well as a seller fee. Do not reuse the Free-versus-Plus threshold for every upgrade. Compare the incremental subscription difference and the applicable fee difference for your own two plans.
Download the original platform-cost worksheet to replace the hypothetical sales figures. It includes blank rows for processor fees and your existing email service so they are not accidentally hidden inside a “free” label.
What Linktree's selling features change
The Linktree digital-product setup guide describes eligibility for Pro and Premium in supported countries. That matters because an older claim that Linktree can only redirect to outside stores no longer describes the complete product.
Read the fee language at the right level of detail before you budget. The current pricing page advertises 0% selling fees for Pro, while an earlier digital-product fee guide says the platform percentage depends on the plan. We do not turn that into a universal fee rate or reuse a legacy percentage. Confirm your product type, plan, region and checkout terms directly.
The live Linktree page displayed Pro at $17 billed monthly, or $14 per month billed annually, during our final browser check. The Beacons table above is an internal plan comparison, not a cross-provider break-even calculation. Put the eligible Linktree plan, its actual selling terms and the tools it would replace into your own budget before declaring a cost winner.
Also inspect delivery. A prospective buyer needs to know what they receive, which format they receive it in and where to find it after paying. Product availability on a feature list does not answer those customer questions by itself.
A creator example: three audiences, three paths
Imagine a fictional food illustrator named Maya. Her profile brings in readers from drawing videos, potential brand partners and people interested in a printable meal planner. Giving all three audiences the same unexplained set of buttons creates avoidable work.
For viewers, the first path is “Find the materials from today's drawing.” It should lead to a relevant resource rather than a generic store home. For sponsors, the route is “See collaboration examples and request availability.” For buyers, the route is “Preview the planner and understand what is included.” Each destination needs a clear promise before the click.
Beacons is worth exploring if Maya wants those business tasks maintained together. Linktree remains a reasonable candidate if her media kit, mailing list and shop already live elsewhere and she mainly needs an organized entrance. Neither recommendation assumes a measured conversion advantage.
Before moving anything, draw the three routes and circle the primary action for the current campaign. Use the whiteboard below to place the visitor, destination and next step side by side. Replace Maya's example with your real offers; then implement the result in the chosen bio service.
Email and media kits: integration is only useful when used
A media kit needs an owner. Someone must check the public information, examples and inquiry details when the business changes. An automatically refreshed component can reduce one kind of work, but it does not guarantee that your positioning or offer remains accurate.
Email needs an equally clear destination. Decide whether the signup starts a welcome sequence, adds someone to an existing newsletter or delivers a resource. Explain what the subscriber is asking for. A completed form that goes to an unmonitored list is not a successful audience-building workflow.
If you already have an established newsletter, compare the cost and effort of keeping it against migrating it. Consider templates, automations, segments and consent records. Do not assume every field or automation will transfer through a basic contact export.
For sponsorships, separate a public media-kit view from a private negotiation. Give partners enough information to decide whether to inquire, then route the inquiry to a monitored channel. You do not need to publish every commercial detail on the bio page to make that route useful.
Design, analytics and mobile checks
Evaluate the actual page with your own content. Long titles, landscape thumbnails and a dozen secondary links behave differently from a vendor's carefully selected demo. Preview the first screen on a small phone and check whether the main action is visible without competing banners.
Use descriptive labels. “Watch the watercolor lettering lesson” gives more information than “Latest.” A label should remain understandable when someone finds the page a week after publication. If the destination changes, check that the wording still describes the result.
For analytics, define the event before comparing dashboards. A page view, outbound click, completed signup and fulfilled order represent different stages. A more detailed dashboard cannot repair missing attribution at the destination. Preserve campaign tags and use the destination system to verify actions that happen there.
We have not measured loading speed or accessibility scores for either platform in this article. Test the exact published page, including embeds and assets, before claiming one is faster or easier to use. The choice of content can materially change the experience.
Migration and the final choice
Build the replacement without immediately removing the old page. Copy the destinations, check each route and record where your current bio address is published. Update social profiles, recurring email signatures and important old descriptions deliberately. Vendor-hosted URLs do not automatically move with your content.
For digital products, keep customer access separate from the visual page migration. Confirm how existing buyers retain their purchases and how future buyers receive support. A new storefront should not silently remove access promised by the old one.
Choose Linktree for a focused directory when the surrounding business tools are already settled. Choose Beacons when the combined creator workflow solves recurring work and the eligible plan fits your costs. If the real need is a custom website or a course-centered store, compare the other Linktree alternatives before committing to either.
